PEDIGREE OF THE GRANTS OF ARNDILLY, IN THE PARISH OF BOHARM AND COUNTY OF BANFF, CADETS OF MONYMUSK
[514][514.01] I -WILLIAM GRANT OF ARDALIE: Third son of Duncan Grant, second of Ballintomb, by his wife Helen Gordon. He sat on the inquest for the retour of Robert Grant of Dalvey, on 26th July 1661. He married Jean, daughter of John Grant of Gaidwell, and had issue four sons and three daughters.
[514.02] II -WALTER GRANT OF ARNDILLY: Commissioner of Supply in 1690 and 1704. He died in June 1720. He married Margaret, third daughter of William Leslie of Milton of Balveny, and had issue three sons and three daughters.
[514.03] ARCHIBALD GRANT of Papine, married Mary, a daughter of Yyy Leith, Chamberlain to the Earl of Errol.
[514.04] ALEXANDER GRANT of Conrach, married a daughter of Innes of Ardianie (?).
[514.05] PATRICK GRANT of Easter Galdwell, married a daughter of Farquharson of B-
[514.06] HELEN GRANT married Harrie Steuart of Newton.
[514.07] ISABEL GRANT married Alexander Innes of Stounietoun.
[514.08] MARGARET GRANT married Alexander Hay of Cairntie.
[514.09] III - THOMAS GRANT OF ACHOYNANIE: He was served heir to his father in the mill of Papin, etc., 21st June 1748. In 1716 he received a Crown charter of resignation under the Great Seal of the lands of Achoynanie, and in 1720 is mentioned as serving on the inquest for the retour of Alexander Grant of Grant. In 1741 he was appointed, by a commission under the Great Seal, one of the commissioners on the Highlands of Scotland in place of Sir Ludovick Grant, resigned. In 1757, he disponed his estate of Achoynanie, with all his personal estate, in favour of Colonel Alexander Grant his son. He married Jean Sutherland, daughter of the Laird of Kinminnity, and had issue. He died on 25th November 1758, his wife predeceasing him on 2d March of the same year.
[514.10] ROBERT GRANT of Kylvemore, who married Agnes, younger daughter of James Urquhart of Knockleigh.
[514.11] FRANCIS GRANT, an advocate in Edinburgh.
[514.12] JANET GRANT who married John Leslie of Ardnelie, and had issue
[514.13] A daughter who married William Dunbar of Dykeside, and had issue

[514.15] CAPTAIN ARCHIBALD GRANT named in 1716 as an heir of entail.
[514.16] JOHN GRANT of Conrach: He died before 1776, leaving issue.
[514.17] I. - COLONEL ALEXANDER GRANT OF ACHOYNANIE AND ARNDILLY: Who, as only lawful son in life of Thomas Grant of Achoynanie, received, on 10th December 1757, a Crown charter of resignation of the lands of Achoynanie and Little Cantuly, etc. On 16th February 1758 he received from Sir Ludovic Grant of Grant, a feu of the lands of Arndilly, with the teinds and fishings. In 1763 he entered into a contract of excambion with the Earl of Findlater, whereby he exchanged the lands of Achoynanie, etc., for the lands of Edinvillie and others, On 28d November 1776 he executed a deed of entail of the lands of Arndilly and others in favour of himself and the other heirs therein named. He married, on 18th September 1769, Eleanora-Frances, daughter of William Murray. Mrs. Grant died at Elgin on 6th February 1775. Colonel Grant died in Jamaica in August 1779, and was succeeded by his daughter.
[514.18] ISABELLA GRANT who married Dr. John Gordon, and had issue
[514.19] JEAN GRANT who married Lieutenant Robert Gordon, R.N., and had issue
[514.20] ROBERT GRANT, sometime at Edinville, only surviving son in 1769. He died before 1776.
[514.21] JEAN named in her cousin's entail of 1776. She married Duncan Grant, Provost of Forres, and had issue
[514.22] FRANCIS GRANT, named in the entail of 1776, and designed as a jeweller in Kingston, Jamaica.
[514.23] V - MARY-ELEANORA GRANT: Who was born 28th October 1771. On 24th May 1790, she was retoured heir of taillie and provision to her father. She married, in 1790, David McDowall, seventh son of William McDowall of Garthland and Castle Semple, Renfrewshire, and had issue. Her husband assumed the additional surname of Grant after McDowall. She died before 11th August 1832, and was succeeded by her eldest son.
[514.24] VI 1 - W1LLIAM GRANT McDOWALL GRANT: Born 30th November 1795. On 11th August and 1st September 1832 he received precepts of clare constat as heir of tailzie and pro vision of his mother. He died on 29th January 1849, and was succeeded by his brother Hay. He married, on 5th December 1825, the Hon. Eleanor Fraser, second daughter of Alexander, fifteenth Lord Saltoun, who survived him, dying at London on 26th September 1852. They had issue.
[514.25] ALEXANDER McDOWALL GRANT, born 1800 Died in Jamaica in 1817.
[514.26] DAVID McDOWALL GRANT, born 1802. Was an officer in the 92d Regiment, and died in Jamaica in 1823.
[514.27] JAMES McDOWALL GRANT, born 1803. Died in Jamaica in 1837.
[514.28] VI 2 - HAY McDOWALL GRANT OF ARNDILLY J.P., D.L. of Banffshire, born 18th June 1806: He was, on 27th June 1849, retoured as heir of tailzie and provision to his brother William. He died 20th March 1870, and was succeeded in Arndilly by his niece.
[514.29] THOMAS GARLAND McDOWALL GRANT, born April 1808 became a midshipman. Died 1823.
[514.30] JOANNA-MARIA McDOWALL GRANT, born December 1792, married, November 1814, Thomas Gordon of Park. She died in August 1872.
[514.31] ELIZABETH GRAHAM McDOWALL GRANT, born 1795. She married, 9th April
1818, the Hon. William Fraser, third son of Alexander, fifteenth Lord Saltoun.
She died on 5th May 1853. Their eldest son is Alexander, the seventeenth and
present Lord Saltoun.
[514.32] ELEANORA FRANCES MURRAY McDOWALL GRANT, born 1798. She married her cousin, General McDowall of Garthland, Renfrewshire, and died in 1875.
[514.33] WILHELMINA DAY McDOWALL GRANT, born 14th January 1805. She married the Rev. Robert Aitken, Vicar of Pendeen, Cornwall.
[514.34] VII - MARJORY-ALEXANDRINA McDOWALL GRANT, Elder daughter and heiress: Married, first, Ranald Steuart Menzies of Culdares (who died 1870). Issue one son, William George Steuart Menzies of Culdares, and younger of Arndilly; second, in 1872, Colonel John Kinloch of Kilrie and Logie, Forfarshire, who, on his marriage, assumed the additional surname of Grant before Kinloch.
[514.35] LOUISA FRANCES GRANT married, in 1863, as his third wife, Edward William Seymour of Porthmawr, Brecon, who died in 1874.
